Tracking of Fibers in 3D Paper Structures Obtained by an Automated Microtomy Method

چکیده

A novel method for digitization of paper structure, based on automated microtomy combined with optical microscopy, is presented. The concept is capable of obtaining digitized 3D paper structure data for sample areas in the range of several square millimeters within a time range of several hours. Individual fibers are tracked through the 3D fiber network using advanced image analysis algorithms. A novel algorithm referred to as "MSERTracking" was developed. Based on the results of MSER-Tracking, numerous features of detected fibers can be extracted. First results of this concept are presented and the potential for future research is discussed.
